Kantha Sari Shawl This is a two layers of recycled sari fabric matched together and covered in fine kantha stitch. The name of artisan is embroidered in the corner. Most pieces are 100% silk; very few are 50% silk/50% cotton. Gently hand wash separately in mild detergent and cold water.
Length ranges from 78 to 85 inches (200 to 215 cm”) and width from 39 to 45” (100 to 115 cm) all of the measurements are approximate.
This is a exclusive use of upcycled silk saris which reduces waste. Entirely handmade processes mean this item is eco-friendly. All materials are natural and thus biodegradable.
This Hand Work provided by a women’s cooperative, providing members regular employment, living wages and safe and flexible working conditions. The home-based work is suitable for all women and prevents urban migration.
Women empowerment – Hand Work exclusively by women from highly marginalized communities, who prior to this work were at high risk of human trafficking. This work provides their only opportunity for earning income in their villages. These women maintain the highest quality levels and use of traditional techniques which ensures this ancient skill is preserved.
